The property has been noted as a fine example of a well managed horse property by the Adelaide Hills Natural Resource Management Board who run pasture care courses at Kirkley Hill. Paddocks have been sown with specific horse pasture and are fertilised with organic fertiliser annually. Horses are rotated so as not to overgraze the pasture. We have an extensive manure composting and recycling program using composting worms, producing quality premium garden compost. Much of this is returned to the paddocks as fertiliser each autumn.
The property is bushfire ready, along with extinguishers, fire pumps and paddock irrigation. A bushfire plan involving all agistees and horses will be put into practise in the event of a fire. Detailed Fire plan is provided to all agistees.
Too many options to choose from? A rider will nearly always know in advance their preference for the seat and size and shape of the knee roll. We establish the seat size required and the length of flap that will suit. Very long legs sometimes encounter difficulties with saddle flaps catching on the tops of their long boots so an extra inch in length will negate that. On the other hand a slightly shortened flap will allow a shorter leg to make a better contact with the side of the horse. More often than not, the standard length is just perfect.
In commencing the saddle-fit process we first select the right head-plate, fit it to the seat and place in on the horse’s back. This will allow us to identify whether the horse will require gusseted front panels, or not, or perhaps 21/2 inch rear gussets instead of standard 2 inch gussets.
